Histoplasmosis: Histoplasmosis is an initial infection of the lungs giving flu-like or cold-like symptoms...The fungus can sometimes infect the retina (the inside light sensitive lining of the eye). The infection can cause direct damage to the retina and if it affects the macula, central vision may be destroyed. Exposure to histoplasmosis correlates with chicken farming, the fungus lingers in the animal waste.
