A member asked:

Age 40. never been diabetic or fat. i thought type 2 only afflicts fat/obese people. so if i've been diagnosed as pre-diabetic is it type 1?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Could be type 1: Hi. Yes, type 1 is certainly possible. Easiest way to tell would be to check type 1 autoantibodies (antibodies against GAD, IA-2, and insulin). There are, however, non-obese type 2's. Whatever type it is, control it well, eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, control blood pressure and lipids, and don't smoke. Good luck!
