Because your reproductive system has been relying on artificial hormones for contraception and cycle regulation, the hormones that orchestration the cycle have been "asleep." Your own hormonal system may take a few months to "wake up". BTW, you could ovulate before your period so, if you don't want to get pregnant, use some type of contraception.
