Fluids and Fiber: The most common causes of constipation in pregnancy are decrease fluid intake and pre-natal vitamins. The safest way to treat is by increasing fluids and your fiber intake. If needed, most fiber laxatives are safe ie bran powder, psyllium. Stool softeners are safe as well. Miralax (polyethylene glycol) is better than Lactulose and both are class C for pregnancy and usually well tolerated. Check with your physician.
