Several: White Blood Cells need sugar levels under 200 to fight infection properly, and a number of other processes in the body are not optimal when the blood sugar is high. Diabetes also damages blood vessels and nerves, which can lead to injuries and poor healing in the affected area. Obesity (fat in the area of injury) also causes poor healing, mostly by compromised blood flow.
