Premenstrual: cramping- may be hormonal or related to ovulation- you should consult your GYN- you can use Advil or Aleve, (naproxen) if not allergic until you are seen and examined.

Probably normal!: Cramping can occur with ovulation and menses, a few days before or after is probably normal. You don't mention your contraceptive method. If none, or not consistently used, could be preganant, but if no other symptoms of pregnancy--still probably normal. Variation of menstrual period may occur with stresses, etc.
