A member asked:

I have taken bilirubin and sgpt test twice my sgpt was earlier 40 and it reduced to 31 but direct bilirubin has increased and indirect is reduced?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Sgpt is normal.: What was the value of your total bilirubin? No values depending on the lab are 0.3-1.0 mg/dl. If that was normal, no need to worry about indirect or direct. If indirect is high one worries about excessive breakdown of red blood cells (hemolysis)ex bleeding, hemolytic anaemia etc. if direct is elevated, there's concern for liver blockage.
