Probably okay: Once cold sores are scabbed over, they are usually not contagious. Of course, it's always possible that some virus may still be there. If so, and it came in contact with broken skin, it can transmit the virus and cause sores to develop there. Acyclovir can prevent the virus from growing. This can be a painful infection, but not dangerous for those with normal immune systems.
