Treat causation: Common causes include diabetes, high tryglycerides, hypertension, heart disease, traumatic dissection damage to large blood vessels in neck, carotid stenosis, and all can be theoretically treated and controlled. Less common risks should also be treated, including sleep apnea, high homocysteine, sickle cell anemia, protein c and s deficiencies, anti-phospholipid ab syndrome.
