Normal: A delayed period (and you are right, stress is a big factor) allows for an extra time for tissue to build up thus leading to heavier cycles when it starts. Usually it is a one time thing.

Pregnant?: With a late and somewhat unusual period, the first thing I would think of is pregnancy. if you haven't already, take a pregnancy test. That being said, late and heavy or unusual periods can also be caused by hormone fluctuations, and are usually nothing to worry about, as long as they go away the next month.
