A member asked:

Is there a medical term for someone who does something that they would not normally do, due to having recently suffered a hardship?

Stress behavior: Under stress, individuals sometimes behave differently. There are many terms when this is from mental ailments. Even the normally mentally healthy can change when the stress is intense. Someone who changes dramatically should be evaluated for biologic mental health problems that can be controlled with treatment. Chronic or acute problems may respond to medication or counseling.
