Depends on condition: The terms are often used for treatment of psychiatric conditions, but may be used for any medical condition. In behavioral modification, or with the initiation of medications, part of the initial monitoring, or therapy may begin with a hospital stay, before discharge and continued treatment with follow-up. This would be considered partial. No hospital stay would be outpatient.

Symantics: many treatments can be delivered in different ways. Insurance will pay for some and not others. Since you do not mention the exact program, it is impossible for me to compare. As you make your choice, determine what fits your particular needs. It can be difficult going to and fro for therapy and is often easier to remain overnight
