A member asked:

Thumb has been shaky for a couple weeks.have had random muscle twitches in different places.sound like als?getting emg for peace of mind.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely: Despite the ice bucket challenge, ALS is still very rare, about 5000 cases a year. With your history of spinal cord compression, that is most likely the cause and the emg will help with diagnosis. Other causes include overuse of a muscle or an electrolyte abnormality like with calcium. A few blood tests would help with that.
