5 weeks is plenty: At 5 weeks after last sex, a properly done pregnancy test gives an accurate result regardless of what else is happening. That means the result is accurate no matter what type of sexual activities or type of birth control (if any) is going on. Five weeks is plenty of time to get an accurate negative or positive test. If very worried, one can repeat the test one time, with a different brand of test.
