Why r u asking?: Are you trying to figure this out yourself? I could explain it, but without background knowledge you probably still wouldn't understand it. If this is an academic question, some searching on the web should turn up an adequate explanation. If this is about you or someone you know, you really should let a neurologist diagnose and then explain how he could tell. Much more informative that way.

Brain vs. nerve: Bell's is a nerve pinch. Stroke is brain. Patients will have a weak smile, but will be able to close their eye tightly and wrinkle their forehead symmetrically with stroke. They may have other stroke signs (speech, coordination, blood pressure changes, changes in consciousness/thinking) BELL"S WON"T. Bell's often have other nerve pinch signs --PAIN and sensation changes.
