Yes: Doxycycline works 2 ways- it reduces the bacterial load and the inflammation associated with acne. It is not for everyone and there are some side effects, so adequate monitoring by your physician is key.

Yes: Doxycycline is a common antibiotic that is used successfully in many people to treat acne. Try adding other over the counter medications to treat the acne to try and come off the doxycycline as soon as possible. We are concerned about antibiotic resistance for patients who remain on antibiotics long term.

See your doctor: Acne is a very complicated and has many forms of severity-skin disease An antibiotic alone sometimes is insufficient as the hormones causing oil to be secreted is the culprit. Sometimes over washing your face makes it worse as well as not washing your face enough. A more thorough history and exam is needed. As a last resort ask your doctor about Accutane

Yep.: Doxycycline is commonly used for acne, along with good skin care practices. If your doctor suggested beginning it at that dose, do it. However, sometimes lower doses can be effective. See http://tinyurl.com/mdjm9qr

Acne: Acne is not an infection. It is driven by male hormone and occurs due to hyperfunction and blocking of the sebaceous gland with keratin debris which then may become secondarily infected by bacteria.Doxycline is OK but will make you light sensitive and cause hyperpigmentation. Best treatment is to keep the glands open, skin clean, and avoid makeup as much as possible. May need to see dermatologist.
