Neosporin, bandaid: If it itches, OTC antihistamines may help. If it is infected, a topical antibiotic such as Neosporin will help. Keep it covered to protect the area from scratching. It should resolve all by itself.

Infection vs allergy: If the skin is infected, you may need a course of oral antibiotics. If the reaction is more of an allergy, then topical or oral steroids could be the solution. See your doctor for treatment.

See below: Hi,put neosporin ointment on the area that looks infected and calamine lotion on the red bumps. When the mosquito bites you and sucks blood it injects saliva which causes this immune response. If the itchiness becomes worse take OTC antihistamine such as claritin (loratadine). If fever develops see a doctor.Time will be the best healer for this:a few days.Insect repellant on your skin next time!

Insect bite: What you are describing sounds more like an allergic reaction to the sting than to an infection. Take loratidine or cetrizine, if that doesnt help then by all means have it evaluated for a possible infection. If the redness spreads or you get a fever ,see a doctor sooner rather than later.
