Hand transplantation: Is an evolving field thst is highly technical and requires taking immunosuppressive drugs for the rest of ones life. These drugs have many potential risks and side effects. Select healthy patients who have had a bilateral traumatic hand or forearm amputation are considered for this. While there are many hand surgeons there are only a handful or two of medical centers where this is offered. careful screening and acceptanceand understanding of risk is essential
