AFI: We measure the fluid by doing an AFI (amniotic fluid index) and that level will change all day long based on how hydrated you wife is and when the baby last urinated. There is a range of normal AFI depending on the gestational age. Rest on her left side will increase it, but ask her OB if she has oligo (oligohydramnios). This would mean too little fluid and is a concern.
