Need tests: This is a complicated question. When I lived in Turkey we had salmonella/shigella/ camplobacter/ e. coli and numerous bowel complaints among Americans there that they didn't have in the States. Sanitation was a big problem. However, diarrhea was the rule and not stool retention. Irritable bowel syndrome is likely and your local doctors will be able to evaluate you well.
