5-7 years old: The best "tests for" asthma are lung tests such as spirometry and exhaled Nitric Oxide determination. These tests are difficult to perform in children under 5. Impedance oscillometry is a specialized test that can be used before that, if available. However, most cases of asthma are diagnosed by history, physical exam, and response to treatment. Allergy testing is often helpful, especially under 50.
