Try analgesic balm: If this is a new problem as a result of trauma ,you could try an ice pack placed on this area every couple of hours. As well as over the counter pain meds.Over the counter analgesic balm may help.If these fail see a doctor.

This sounds like: costochondritis or chest wall pain. You can try over the counter medications like ibuprofen, heating pad, and tylenol (acetaminophen). From what you have written It does not necessarily sound life threatening but if persists (or other symptoms - fast heart rate, shortness of breath especially with activity, lightheadedness or feeling like you might pass out) you need to see a doctor.
