Yes but: They are mild anti hypertensives used in situational anxiety. But you're describing side effects lethargy/dizziness. Maybe top shelf treatment ssri's not an option. Tenex (guanfacine) (long acting brother Intuniv ) is more mild centrally acting anti hypertensive originally developed for elderly (not b1 blkrs) but decades now psych using for anxiety in or hyper adrenergic stated eg PTSD, ADHD .Take care.

Largely: Both are beta blockers, which will help keep your heart from beating so forcefully and rapidly when you are anxious. Inderal, (propranolol) which crosses into the brain may have some additional effect on anxiety because it can be a little sedating.

Similar: Although both medicines are beta blockers, inderal (propranolol) may work slightly better for anxiety than atenolol.. Beta blockers are weak anxiolytics but sometimes they work. However, if anxiety is more serious other medications should be used
