Hot Night!: Capsaicin is the compound in chili peppers that makes them "hot". This causes the burning, but not particular damage. I know for the mouth people have tried milk or sugar water to get the burning to settle down. This would not be harmful to try. Otherwise the symptoms should improve, but may take a few hours.
