Not painful : Most patients do not experience much pain with an IUD insertion. Some of the pens on the patient's pain tolerance and some of it depends on the skill of the gynecologist. Taking ibuprofen ahead of time helps a lot. I use an ultrasound guided technique which helps too

IUD: It is one of Common Contraceptive used by women. If it fits well, it does not cause much pain. For 3 months or so it can cause pain and bleeding. You can take NSAID such as advil (ibuprofen) or motrin for pain. There is no such contraindication of IUD for Nulliparous women.
