One of many: Vitiligo is just one of a dozen conditions that could cause hypopigmentation. May need to see a dermatologist for the diagnosis.

Many conditions!: It's true that vitiligo causes a hypopigmentation via loss of melanin in certain areas of the skin. However, common superficial fungal infections, atopic dermatitis or eczema, these are examples of other conditions that can also cause similar changes. You can easily differentiate between these with a good examination. If necessary you can start with your primary care doc, and get a deem referral.

It's what it is: Losing pigment on the skin is called vitiligo although it tells you nothing about what may be causing it. Having said that, it is often considered an autoimmune disorder.

Usually: however, expsure to exreme heat, burns, chemicals, and trauma can also cause pigment loss. You should consult a dermatoligist and at least get an expert opinion.
