It is readily available, very cheap, well-tolerated and always covered on drug formularies. Yes, it is possible to cure diabetes without medication, but it takes time and it involves diet, exercise and significant weight loss.

Diet and exercise.: Since you are 37 years old i think your diabetes should be managed with diet and exercise first and see how you are doing. You need to be educated for that like attending diabetes managment classes offered by certain hospitals. In the mean time you need your fbs , Hga1c should be checked with 3-4 months intervals by your doctor. If it fails and can not loose weigt than Metformin is prescribed.
