Misuse: Alcoholism by definition refers to misuse or abuse of alcohol. Since the legal age for drinking in most states is 21, any use of alcohol by a teen would be considered abuse. Even though it is and always has been a common occurence it is still abuse. Frequent use, minimizing use, or inability to control the amount used are signs that abuse/alcoholism may persist into adulthood.
