Systemic treatment: Try a combination of claritin and zantac, both over the counter to block histamine receptors 1 and 2, Aveeno oatmeal products, Wash with cetaphil instead of soap and water, gloves or socks on hands at night, fingernails cut short. It sounds like your doctor may need to prescribe a low dose steroid course like a Medrol-Dose Pak for poison ivy to alleviate your symptoms. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is contraindicated.
