Gravity: If chest pain is primarily due to GERD, then it is common to have worse pain at night. The reason is gravity. More stomach acid can leak out of your stomach into your esophagus causing burning. Also, the valve between your esophagus & stomach is less competent (more leaky) due to change in pressure gradient on either side due to lying down position & gravity. Recommend GERD medicine before bed.
