Follow up: Viral infections usually run it's course by 5 to 7 days. If this persists beyond five days, I would follow up with your primary care physician and get evaluated. You may have a bacterial infection instead of a viral. Remember most upper respiratory infections are viral I etiology though. However, if it persists beyond 7 days, I would definitely follow up because I would presume it be bacterial.
