A member asked:

Is it possible that i could be confusing pain in my "spleen" for something else

Yes: Ann, the spleen lies in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen. Several conditions, such as mono, can cause problems with the spleen, but the lung, diaphragm, stomach, and colon are all nearby, and can cause pain in that location. If you have symptoms that aren't improving, see your doctor. Hope this helps!

Yes: There is a phenomenon known as referred pain, in which pain perceived in one part of the body actually is caused by a problem somewhere else. The classic example is pain in the left shoulder caused by a heart attack (in the lower left chest). Also, liver pain can be referred to the right shoulder. Some pelvic pathology is referred to the abdomen. Also, the spinal nerves "go everywhere". See a doc!
