A member asked:

Why did my doctor prescribe "sulfamethoxazole" for my cellulitis instead of a typical penicillin or cephalosporin?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Resistance: There is an increasing amount of resistance to penicillins and cephalosporins in the bacteria that cause skin infections, but sulfamethoxazole is one of the antibiotics that is still effective.
