Pityriasis: What you are describing sounds like pityriasis rosea. It is not serious nor contagious. The cause of pityriasis has yet to be uncovered although some believe it is viral. The rash from pityriasis usually lasts about 6-8 weeks and goes away without treatment. If it is itchy you can try OTC Benadryl (diphenhydramine). Avoid hot showers, they can make the rash worse. See your doctor for confirmation. Good luck.
