Either or see a doc: it could be either a lymph node and that will explain the tenderness and mass effect it could be an oil gland cyst what is called sebaceous cyst that could get hard like a solid mass and it could get infected and turn to abscess like structure either way you need to see your doctor for evaluation and proper treatment at least with antibiotic before the infection spread good luck
