Depends on symptoms: Does he/she have other symptoms? eating/drinking fluids? Any past medical history or on medications? Has he/she been exposed to others who are ill? A fever of 102 in a healthy 5 year old is generally not dangerous and can be treated with ibuprofen or acetaminophen to make him/her more comfortable. You then may want to call his/her doctor and get a more specific answer, letting them know the above.

More details: There is probably an infection ongoing, but the cause specifically should be determined. Please see your pediatrician for follow up. Provide Tylenol or Motrin for fever control. Fluids and rest are advised.
