Black stool: Black stools can be caused by iron supplements found in prenatal vitamins or certain antacid medications like bismuth (pepto bismol). Bleeding from the GI tract, especially esophagus and stomach, can also cause black stools. Anemia (low hemoglobin levels) in combination with black stools require further evaluation.
