Very common: I see this a great deal, specially in patients prone to headaches and migraine. Just above the top of the angle between your head and neck is the occipital plexus, which is were migraines really originate from. Tenderness in the region is rarely serious and common, may also be indicative of arthritis high in your neck.

Nerves hurt?: If the muscles in the back of your neck feel a bit tight and tender, I would recommend some mild stretching and heat to help loosen up the area. Anxiety/worrying certainly can contribute to tension in the neck. A massage is a wonderful idea to help relax your muscles and provide self-care that may make you feel more relaxed in general. Take care.
