Several things: Pain, numbness and tingling often indicate an injury to a nerve supplying the area affected. Where or how can depend, too. Carpal tunnel syndrome in the wrist causes this in the fingers, but the same symptoms could happen with irritation of that nerve in the neck, or elbow. One thing has been ruled out, which is good. Your doctor will decide with you what the next step should be to sort it out.
