Need a culture: You may have an infection with a bacteria that is not responsive to the antibiotic that you took. You need to have a culture taken from the pus on your tonsils. An appropriate antibiotic may then eradicate the infection. Sometimes, a persistent infection in the tonsils can't be eradicated or recurs; then you may need a tonsilectomy.
