Viral Illness: It sounds like you doctor diagnosed a viral illness? Antibiotics are not indicated or useful in treating viruses. The only medications for viral illness are those that are used to treat the symptoms (such as tylenol (acetaminophen) if she is uncomfortable from the fever). If her fever is continuing or she is having new symptoms, I would recommend that she be reevaluated to rule out secondary infection.

Needs doctor again: If a child has symptoms of fever, cough, and vomiting, and the symptoms persist and worry her parents, days after visiting the doctor, such a child needs to see her doctor again. For example, these symptoms can be viral but also can be from a pneumonia or a strep throat infection... which means the child would need antibiotics to stop the bacteria causing infection. Parents should call her doctor.
