I don't understand: How long before malnutrition and dehydration sets in? In what circumstance? Need more info

Dehydration/malnutri: It depends a lot on the age of the patient. infants and children will develop dehydration in 24-48 hrs if they are losing fluid (vomiting, diarrhea, heat) and not taking enough liquid and malnutrition takes several days. Adults takes longer (days for dehydaration) and perhaps few weeks for manutrition
