Water requirements: A two year old should drink about 43 ounces of fluid a day. This should be 12-16 ounces of milk and the rest divided between water and other liquids. It is better not to go over the recommended amount of fluids, this may cut the amount of foods eaten. Plain water should not be more than 8-10 ounces.

Why any ?: Kids need fluids but water is not the single or best source for their needs. Many fruits like applesauce are full of fluid value (95%) .Most vegetables run 60%. Milk or juices are also of great value. A kid needs a diet that will keep them wetting diapers at least every 6 hr. For you to worry about reaching an arbitrary water intake is over thinking the process.
