It can be: Your symptoms can lag behind the treatment a little bit, so if your antibiotics were recent, yes. If you've finished treatment and still have pain and pus, see your doctor. Sometimes the antibiotic didn't do the trick. Sometimes, mononucleosis (a virus) can look just like strep throat, but won't respond to antibiotics.
