Infancy: Vitamin D is a considered a necessary supplement in the first few days of life if an infant is being solely or partially breastfed. The American Academy of Pediatrics suggest 400 IU per day for these infants as well as infants receiving less than 32 oz per day of Vitamin D fortified formula.
