Normal.: Shunt pain is a normal thing to experience if you have a shunt. Sometimes shunts are removed because they are so painful, but if your brain is dependent on the shunt, this is not a good idea. You can sometimes try different medicines to relieve the pain. Some patients say lidocaine cream over the painful area can help. Speak to your surgeon for more options.
