A member asked:

Is it possible to know if you have some sort of stomach parasite without getting an endoscopy?

Yes: We usually would do stool studies to determine the presence of parasites in the intestines. Do you have risk factors for parasites such as foreign travel? Are you losing weight, have you seen worms in the toilet? What makes you think you have a parasite? I would see my doctor if I thought I had one or had risk factors.

Usually yes.: Most parasites are in the intestines rather than the stomach proper. They usually leave eggs or their own bodies in the stool and are detectable that way. Some parasites are detected via blood studies. Occassionally colonoscopy or endoscopy will reveal evidence of parasites.
