Flu woes: Coughs can linger for a long time, but in this case I think it is probably coincidental and unrelated. It is possible that she she is suffering from allergic rhinitis or hay fever, when her nose is full of mucous, some drips down and causes her to cough.

Residual coughs: Frequently after "flu" or other viral infections the cough may linger for 3-6 weeks. Watch for fever, if this would occur, then physician visit is needed. Many times the coughing is just the normal pulmonary clearing of secretions--and increasing the fluid(water) intake will actually make it better but making the cough more production--thus making it disappear sooner.

Asthma possible: Recurrent and chronic coughing can be a result of untreated or undiagnosed asthma, or other problems including infection, acid reflux, allergies or structural problems of the heart or lungs. A complete history and physical by your physician should be performed.
