Wheeze: You need to take the child to be evaluated and treated as soon as possible. It certainly sounds like it could be asthma.

Child wheezing: Child's airway is congested and reacting to an irritant like allergy, smoke, dust or possibly infection (viral or bacterial). Absolutely no smoking around the child. Run steam in a tent for the child to breath (do not expose to heat). Rub some Vicks on his chest and prop his head up. Plenty of hydration. Do not give him cough suppressant. If struggling to breath, feverish, colored phlegm go to ER.
