How often can a child be treated for lice?

Recurrent problem: Head lice is an annoying condition that can be treated with a variety of remedies, both OTC and by prescription. Sometimes you can get rid of it but get it back because your child was exposed to somebody who had it. We usually recommend repeating a treatment a week or two after the first one. But if your child gets it again, you can treat again. Be sure to comb out the nits thoroughly too.

Lice treatment: Generally speaking we treat with permethrin overnight, then spend the next 2-3 days removing the nits with a comb. In one week, it can be repeated to kill any new ones that have hatched.
